Description:
Abstract: Tropical cyclones are one of the nature’s destructive phenomena, causing loss of lives and property damage. The affected countries associated with the cyclones of this ocean basin include the countries of East Asia (South Korea, Japan and China) and the countries of Southeast Asia and the island nations. Timely warning of these events is of paramount importance for these countries of this region. Towards this goal, Tropical Cyclone monitoring activity was initiated prior to 2009 as part of supporting the USAID disaster relief efforts. Archiving of the data in GIS format (ESRI shape files) was commenced during the beginning of the year 2009. Seven major ocean basins were identified for the purpose of dissemination, namely, the Atlantic, East Pacific, Central pacific, Western Pacific, South Pacific, North Indian and the South Indian basins. Only the storm that attained tropical cyclone status is archived.
Purpose: To disseminate real-time tropical cyclone warnings through email distribution and via the Tropical Cyclone web page.
Supplemental Information: This product contains both TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission)rainfall represented as Raster data and storm position is represented as Point data. Additional general information about the global tropical cyclones is available at: http://tropic.ssec.wisc.edu/

Attribute Accuracy Report: As product is based on GFS(Global Forecasting System) Forecasts and TRMM rainfall estimates, the accuracy depends on these data sets.
Logical Consistency Report: The logical consistency aspects of the GFS and TRMM data sets were planned and implemented by the respective data producing agencies, namely the NOAA/NCEP/EMC and the NASA/TRMM scientific teams. Completeness Report: The current product is operational and is dependent GFS forecast data and TRMM rainfall data. Process Step:
Process Description: This product is generated through a three-step process. During the first step of the process all the inputs data from GFS forecasts and the TRMM rainfall estimates are formatted for the purpose of generating the ESRI shape files. During the second step the data was transferred to an ArcGIS workstation, where the shape files as well as the composite maps are created. During the third step the final products are transferred to the web server as well as via an electronic mail distribution system.

Overview Description:
Entity and Attribute Overview: The primary input parameters are the position coordinates (latitude and longitude), the wind speed and direction from the GFS and NHC Forecast data and the precipitation amounts from the TRMM rainfall estimates. The disseminated files in compressed are named using the following convention: YEAR_BASIN_CYCNUM.today.zip;YEAR - The year the cyclone formed in;BASIN - The basin the cyclone formed in;CYCNUM - The unique number assigned each cyclone. Numbers are basin specific;Where $BASIN uses the following codes:;L – Atlantic;E - East Pacific;C - Central Pacific;W -Western Pacific;U – Australian;S - South Indian; P - South Pacific;A - Arabian Sea;B - Bay of Bengal;O - South China Sea;T - East China Sea; Within each 'zip' file is a point shapefile containing both past track, and current forecast. Using the 'Status' field within the shapefile, the following apply: cyc_1:Past track; cyc_2:GFS Model forecast track; cyc_3:Offical NHC(National Hurricane Center)forecast track. In the point shp file, the attributes are: wind speed (miles/hr), pressure (hpa), year-month-day-hr of the hurricane, status of the hurricane category. Raster NASA TRMM total rainfall estimates (mm). These estimates are accumulated for the lifetime of the cyclone.
